Saturday Hike

We went for a hike today...it was significantly warmer today (25 degrees farenheit). It was so refreshing to be out in nature! I'm so glad I'm married to an active man because it would be really easy to be lazy!

This was my view for the brief time I got to ride in the sled.

My tree hugger...

Sydney's Rock N Roll pose...

We stopped for a rest and made a small fire to warm up.

We even saw several deer while we were hiking.

Seeing these two heads just makes me smile!

Here are some beautiful winter pictures of the Lake...

YMCA

Today was swim lessons again....we went a little early and used the tumbling room. We had the whole thing to ourselves which I thought was great, but the girls would have much rather had other kids to run around with.

Mama Mia...Here We Go Again!

Days like today are NOT the norm in this house. But when have a day like today, it's so much fun!

This is how the morning went down...

After breakfast we had a little dance party.

Then we baked some delicious muffins....it was a new recipe we were trying!

After cleaning up that mess, we headed to the basement to paint...

Then we cleaned up that mess and went back upstairs to taste our yummy muffins. I got out these cute tea cups I found in a box in the basement and we had ourselves a tea party (with hot chocolate)

NO BUNS IN THE OVEN EITHER!!!!!

Irons in the fire

My very wise husband has informed me that it's "irons in the fire" NOT "pans in the fire".

He also pointed out that I have cooked this week so there was literally something in the oven.

Update

I feel like have so many different pans in the fire right now....(is that even a saying?) Maybe it's pans in the oven. Unfortunately I don't literally have anything in the oven these days! Anyway...here's what's going on.

University teaching...I mistakenly thought working with college students would be different that working with toddlers. 3 out of 6 students showed up for their lessons yesterday.

P90X....I made it through all the workouts and now am on my second time through. I think I'm officially on day 14 of 90 days. It's fun...it's killer...it's very time consuming (1 hour a day).

Spring Cleaning for Normal people...yep...haven't done that walk through with a garbage bag yet.

And on top of all that, I have accepted a new "position" for Compassion so I have some training to do for that. I am really trying to get back into practicing violin and viola (my goal is 45 minutes a day). And then there is the usual staying in touch with everyone. Of course I also have 2 little ladies that need lots of attention.

So that's how I'm doing...how are you?

Teachable Moments

Teachable moments are hard.

Being an intentional mother is hard.

Today, the girls and I went shopping at Big Lots and then we went into Dollar Tree next door because the girls like looking at stuff there. We didn't find anything that we had to have so we headed home.

It was 12:30 and I was thinking that it was nice to be home in time for lunch and then get the girls down for their nap.

I started unbuckling Sydney and noticed something shiny in her hand.

It was a large jewel, craft thing that looked like it came off something. I'm thinking, "great...just what I need...a lesson in shoplifting."

After a couple questions, I found out that she had seen it on the floor at Dollar Tree and she picked it up because she thought it would be fun to play with.

You have to realize that what she "stole" was basically garbage...it had fallen off something. It would have been so easy to tell her it was wrong to take it and go inside the house.

But this was one of those "teachable moments".

And so....we buckled ourselves back into the van. Drove back to Dollar Tree. Got out of the car again (did I mention it's zero degrees here today?) And went inside to return the shiny thing.

I tried explaining that I wasn't mad at her, but this was a very good lesson to learn.

Still...she was terrified. She kept saying "Are they going to take me from you?"

But she did a good job in apologizing. And then the store employee got in her face and said "You can't do that. You can't take things." I would have been terrified too!

So then we got back in the car and drove home...only to realize that now her hat was missing.

Ug. Now I probably have to buy a new hat.

Spring Cleaning for Normal People

I'm going to give this a try....I'm always looking for new ways to simplify life and be organized. Check out Crystal's blog for this weeks assignment.

I'll post about my progress later this week....

Weekend Report

Well...not much to report this weekend. It was another very cold one, so we spent most of our time inside! The cross country ski marathon (the Noquemenon) was held yesterday...it's a pretty big event with about 1,000 skiers. The full marathon is 51K. Kevin had considered signing up for it, but now we are grateful he didn't because of the cold!

My first full week teaching at the University was good. Although a couple students were completely unprepared (one doesn't even have her instrument up here with her!), it was fun and I'm looking forward to it again this week.

The other night during bath Kayleigh said, "Look mommy...bath shoes". She even accessorizes in the tub!

Friday Fun

Sydney started swim lessons today at the YMCA. She was very excited and Kayleigh was very confused...she kept saying "Is it my turn now?"

After lunch we made strawberry rice krispie bars...

And that "bump" you see...that's Kayleigh NOT taking a nap.
