New Blog

I have started a new blog....THANKFUL

This is mostly for me, a gratitude journal of sorts, but you are welcome to visit and see what I'm thankful for. I got this idea from my friend, Juli, and my goal is to post one thing a day (when I can).

I will also use this space to record some of my favorite quotes, Bible verses and song lyrics.

I would love to hear your comments each day...so if you have anything to say, leave a comment.

And don't worry...I will continue to post lots of pictures of the little ladies on this blog!

Saturday Hike

I needed a break from the girls so Kevin took them hiking yesterday and I enjoyed 4, glorious, child-free hours in my own house! Although I missed the family time, I needed some time to myself. Here are the pictures they took from their hike...

Don't Be a Goat

If you get email from me, you might have seen my signature line that says, "Don't be a goat. Sponsor a child". This is what I'm talking about....

Matthew 25:31-46

When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, he will sit on his throne in heavenly glory. All the nations will be gathered before him, and he will separate the people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. He will put the sheep on his right and the goats on his left.

Then the King will say to those on his right, "Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me."

Then the righteous will answer him, "Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothes you? When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?"

The King will reply, "I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me."

Then he will say to those on his left, "Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels. For I was hungry and you gave me nothing to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink, I was a stranger and you did not invite me in, I needed clothes and you did not clothe me, I was sick and in prison and you did not look after me."

They will also answer, "Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or needing clothes or sick in prison, and did not help you?"

He will reply, "I tell you the truth, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me."

Then they will go away to eternal punishment, but the righteous to eternal life.

So I'll leave you with my email signature line....simply click on it for a way to do something for Christ.

My Cowgirls

Grandma and Grandpa Redman went to Texas earlier this month and surprised the girls with cowboy boots! They both love them and wear them around the house constantly right now. In fact, the first thing Kayleigh asked me this morning when she woke up was, "Where are my cow boots?"

This was the progression when Syd first tried them on...

BOOTS

ADD HORSE

ADD HAT

I picked up the Cowgirl Kate series at the library for Syd and she's had fun hearing the stories and then acting them out!

Singing in the Rain

Every Child Matters

We know the symptoms of poverty, but in this short video, Wess Stafford, explains the cycle of poverty.
What is Poverty?

What are you going to do?

No More Multitasking

Multitasking is something we often take pride in...but I've realized that it's just NOT working for me and so I'm going to do my best to give it up. If I walk around my house, it's obvious to me that my focus is not on one thing at a time. Often I will see tasks half-done.

But I also read something that was very convicting, and it had to do with multitasking and parenting...

Let me say this upfront - I am strongly opposed to multitasking. When it comes to raising kids and building the kid of family you want, your children need your full attention. They don't need it every moment of every day, but they need it frequently and consistently - and when they need it, they need it!They need it when they are upset. They need it when they are talking to you about something important.

To be sure, multitasking is a skill in which parents can take pride. Multitasking gets dinner on the table. But don't let the task at hand steal your attention so that you're uttering mindless "uh-huhs" as your child tells you what happened at the playground. Make eye contact and listen when you talk to your child or you'll pay the price when she won't look up from a video game to tell you how her days was. - John Walsh, "Enough Already"

That might seem like common sense, but I was convicted because I am guilty of NOT giving my children my full attention when they need it. So there you have it...a confession and a resolution to stop multitasking and start focusing. I'm hoping both my house and my family benefit.

Family Kayaking

We broke out the family kayak this weekend and took our first trip of 2009...we went to a fairly large lake in land from Lake Superior. We managed to stay dry and in the boat so I guess it was successful!

Evening Picnic

Kevin went kayaking today (first time this year) and we met him at a beach with a picnic. I love taking pictures so here are some I snapped...

Girls and Braids

Well it's back to the everyday pictures...

The girls both got haircuts and so I took some pics of their new "dos". Miss Stephanie, our hair stylist, is so patient and good with the girls. She gave them each a braid, which they thought was cool.

See...we really do have grass!!!

I finally gave in and got bangs cut for Kayleigh...much to my surprise, I love them! I think she enjoys having the hair out of her eyes!

I planted this Bleeding Heart last year and was certain it was dead and wouldn't come back! But look how well it's doing.

Oregon Zoo

Finally...my last Oregon post. On Monday, while Kevin was back interviewing, the girls and I ventured to the Oregon Zoo. We had lots of fun and saw lots of neat animals.

This guy was so cool...Malaysian Sun Bear

Lorikeet birds...you could feed them juice out of a cup and one of them snatched the cup out of my hands. I tried to get it back, but it nipped at me! Fiesty little fellow! Sydney thought it was hilarious and still says it was her favorite part of the zoo.

We took a train ride through the zoo

In the African exhibit we saw Giraffes...

Zebras...

Hippos...when we first got to the hippos, one was standing outside of the water. It was cool to see how big he was. Of course, by the time I got my camera out and ready, he was in the water.

This animal (can't remember it's name) stands straight up like this to eat the leaves off the trees.

Here are the girls "basking" in the sun (basking is Sydney's word!)

And here are my two birds, sitting in their nest.

The zoo had a farm area and it was the last thing we visited. Sydney loved petting the goats and Kayleigh, being our not so brave child, was terrified.

We created our own "zoo" to play with when we got home
