John Day Fossil Beds - Painted Hills

We live in a pretty cool state. Oregon is very rich in geological history and this weekend we headed to check out the three different units of the John Day Fossil Beds. 

Here's a map to give you an idea of where we went. 

Our first stop was the Painted Hills. It was very surreal. We were disappointed with how cloudy it was, but it was still impressive and beautiful.

The sun broke through the clouds briefly and we were able to get some "brighter" photos.
