Texas - Part 1

We took a trip to Texas this past week. We were supposed to go in April, but due to COVID19, that trip was canceled. When we assessed the risk of traveling now, we all agreed it was safe or at least worth the risk. Southwest assured us flights were only being sold to 60%, cleaning was happening between each flight and masks were required. Fewer people? YES! It sounded like the perfect time to travel!

The Portland airport was by far the emptiest...it was so empty it was eerie.

We had a flight change in Denver, which was pretty crowded and then landed in Houston.

The morning after we arrived we headed down to Galveston Island for a few days of sun and the sea.

Before moving to Texas, Mom and Keith used to spend several weeks each winter in Galveston at this particular resort. It was fun to see a place we had heard so much about.

Unfortunately we have one bad memory from the trip...we were driving from the town of Galveston back out to the condo when a young man hit us while trying to cross traffic. Thankfully none of us were going too fast, there was warning and a little time to lessen the impact and none of us were hurt. The van, however, didn't fare so well. The girls were quite emotional for a while. I was impressed with how quickly the police arrived and the cars were towed away. About 40 minutes after the accident, we were being driven back to the condo (30 min away) by the police.
