The girls LOVED exploring this fort and I thought it was rather cool to be under the bridge and see it from a different angle. Also, since we recently read about the civil war in history, it fit in nicely as a bonafide field trip.

Fort Point
When we walked across the Golden Gate Bridge, we parked at the north end of it. At the south end of it, in San Francisco, there is a fort called Fort Point. It was built just before the outbreak of the civil war as a fort protect the coastal area. It never saw action, but still stands and is open to the public for exploration. When the Golden Gate Bridge was built, it was built right over the top of the fort.
