Oregon Wildfires

Unfortunately, 2020 has again proven to be a difficult year. The wildfire situation in Oregon (all along the west coast, really) is horrific. Over Labor Day weekend we had an "unprecedented wind event" and high temperatures after a very dry summer....the perfect storm for wildfires. The fires spread quickly and many, many homes (whole towns) were lost. This is a map of the area most affected. The green on this map was at level 1 of evacuation (get ready). The yellow was at level 2 (get set) and the red is level 3 (GO!) We live about an hour from the closest green area.

It didn't take long for the smoke to settle over Hood River, causing our air quality to be hazardous for more than a week.

We ended up taking an impromptu trip to Idaho just to escape and be able to get outside a bit. (It was Kevin's birthday weekend and we had so many local plans that had gotten canceled). It was so eerie driving through this much smoke.

Unfortunately the smoke followed us, but unhealthy air is better than hazardous air!
