As most of you know, we sponsor several children through Compassion International...it is a ministry that God has laid on my heart and I have dedicated 14 years of my life to as both a sponsor and an advocate (finding other sponsors). I have always told myself that if I ever came across a child with the same birthday as me, I would sponsor that child. Now...I could easily call up Compassion, or log onto their website and find a child that shares a birthday with me, but that was not the point. I was sharing this with my area coordinator in Minnesota last year and she said "oh...when is your birthday?" Well, lo and behold, 2 weeks later I got several child packets in the mail and one of them was a birthday buddy!
So as my birthday drew near, I told my dear husband that all I wanted for my birthday was permission to sponsor this dear girl in Ghana who shared my birthday...I can honestly say this was my best birthday present EVER! This was a gift that keeps on giving. I think the next best thing to sponsoring more children myself, is simply getting everyone I know to sponsor a child.
It really is a gift that will change your life!!
