Creation Book and Syd's Book

Every week the girls are working on a new Bible memory verse. This past week was Genesis 1:1 "In the beginning, God created the Heavens and the Earth". I try to find books, songs and other activities to enhance the learning so for this one we made a Creation Book. One day we cut things out of magazines and the next couple days we assembled the book. They really like looking at it and having me "read" it to them.

Sydney really likes to cut things out of magazines so I have started letting her cut out whatever she wants....when she is finished, she tells me what each thing is and why she cut them out. And I paste them into her "journal". Then when daddy comes home, we show him. It's fun to see what she cuts out and her cutting skills are getting so much better! Kayleigh likes to pick up the pictures that Syd has cut out and cut them in half! That doesn't go over so well.

Memory Verses and Valentines

We've been enjoying some simple Valentine activities this week...yesterday while making our Valentines, Sydney decorated these hearts with matching heart stickers. All the blue stickers went on the blue heart, all the yellow stickers on the yellow heart, etc.

We are also celebrating a little each day with "heart" treats. Yesterday they got a piece of chocolate in the shape of a heart. Today they got their snacks in heart shaped cake pans.

Another way we are "celebrating" is with this weeks memory verse. It's pretty long, but they will get it.

I just started memory verses with the girls last week. The first verse we did they already know pretty well because we have a great book by Karma Wilson called "I Will Rejoice". It was fun to start with one they are familiar with so they get the hang of it.

Here is a video clip of Syd reciting the verse. Kayleigh got it down pretty good, but she absolutely would not do it for the camera!

Christmas Tree Craft

Kayleigh's Tree

Sydney's Tree

On display...the girls think it's so cool that I would hang their art work up somewhere other than the refrigerator! And it's a great way to make the whole kitchen very festive.

Craft Time

The other day I stocked up on some craft supplies. So yesterday was a "stay-at-home" day and we did a couple crafts (thanks, Megan, for the ideas!) Here are the Santas and Reindeer we made.

We aren't anti-Santa or pro-Santa...we don't really "do" Santa, but the girls know who he is. I want them to understand what Christmas is about...we want to have a Christ-centered Christmas....but it's fun to do the silly stuff too. I have checked out LOTS of Christmas books at the library and this past week, my focus was to get Nativity-themed books since we are here in the homestretch of Christmas. Well, I picked out 3 or 4 yesterday to read to the girls and Sydney noticed the manger scene on the front of all of them...she said, "Not another Jesus story, mom. Can't we read a fun one?" Apparently she still doesn't "get" it.

Kayleigh, on the other hand, is a baby lover. Naturally, she likes the idea of baby Jesus. This morning she was playing with a photo of Sydney as a baby and I said, "Kayleigh, who is that baby?" She said, "Jesus, mommy, Jesus".

Rice Bucket

I created a "sensory" bucket out of rice for the girls to play in. They had a blast even though it was a little messier than I thought it would be. Kayleigh later told daddy that she played "rain" with the rice....I guess that's why it was messy.
