I created a "sensory" bucket out of rice for the girls to play in. They had a blast even though it was a little messier than I thought it would be. Kayleigh later told daddy that she played "rain" with the rice....I guess that's why it was messy.
They do a sensory table at Mitchell's preschool - I was talking to the teacher the other day and she told me that she used flour one day and it TOTALLY soothed and quieted him (can I get a table for every room!!?!?). Any ways - I was making cookies the other day and it was getting crazy with all the help I had - so I put some flour in a bowl and boy did it do the trick he was happier with a spoon and a measuring cup in the bowl than rolling out the cookies with mom, but he was right next to me. Other ideas are a kitchen sink sensory time - just KNOW they will be wet - and put a towel down before hand. Packing peanuts, cotton balls, corn, flax, shaving cream (they can write letters, etc with this smoothed on the back of a cookie sheet). It is amazing how these things can keep their attention and the littlest things added spark imagination. ;0)

This is hilarious -- first the bucket is on the floor, then on a towel -- but where is the rice? Looks like a lot of it is on the floor!
