Blog Action Day

Today is Blog Action Day and the subject we are taking action against is POVERTY.

So if you know me even a little bit, you know I'm going to talk about one of my favorite organizations....Compassion International.

For those of you who don't know....Compassion offers one-on-one sponsorships for children living in extreme poverty.

I LOVE being a sponsor. I have been sponsoring children for 15 years now and have seen, firsthand, that it works. I love reading accounts where sponsored children have grown up and are so thankful for the opportunities they recieved through Compassion, that now they sponsor children! And there are other accounts where sponsored children grow up and become parents themselves...because of the opportunities they had through Compassion, they are in a position where their own children do not need sponsorship. Those two examples define success in my opinion. Compassion is successful in "releasing children from poverty in Jesus name".

Yes....sponsorship costs money....$32 a month. I know most of us have really tight budgets right now, but it's not much when you look at what it can do. For me sponsorship is not about my family giving money to the poor...it's about creating a relationship with a child who so desperately needs to hear that they are special. One of the lies of poverty is that you don't matter to anyone. These children need hope and that's what sponsorship is about, in my opinion.

I have profiles of two children sitting here on my desk that need sponsors.

Golda is 7 and lives in Indonesia. She is a beautiful little girl that needs someone to love and encourage her.

Njiku will be 5 in December and lives in Tanzania (an HIV/AIDS affected area). He is adorable and also needs someone to love and encourage him.

If you want to sponsor either Golda and/or Njiku, contact me TODAY and I will get you set up. I will also give you this doll, handmade by a fellow Compassion enthusiast....she is a "Compassion Friend" and the proceeds of the purchase went to Compassion's Global Food Crisis Fund to feed 2 children for one month.

Please do something worthwhile TODAY. I promise you won't regret it. It's such a blessing to be involved in something bigger than you!

You can also visit Compassion's website to see more children....

And I am always available to answer any questions or share more about this ministry.

One more thing....there is an excellent post on Compassion's blog today. Please take a moment to read it.

I love your background, I went to that site and followed the directions, but it keeps coming up with an error.....I don't know what I am doing wrong!!
