Mackinac Island

I had the WONDERFUL opportunity to get away without my family this weekend.... and I went to MACKINAC ISLAND!!!

with my great friend from childhood....Jennifer

We've kept in touch over the years....even started getting together regularly every year. Well...that stopped about 4 years ago when we started having kids. First her, then me, then me again and then her again. And as much as I would love to see her girls and have her see mine, we decided that we needed a child-free, husband-free weekend together.

We did a little of everything....biked, shopped, rode the horses, ate, sampled fudge, listened to Irish music, walked, talked.. It was a much needed break for me!

We didn't have the best weather, but it could have been much worse. I was pretty insistent that we bike around the island...it's 8.3 miles...beautiful....but it was raining off and on. Did you notice that nice white jacket Jenn was wearing in the picture? Not so white after our bike ride in the rain! In fact, as we returned to our hotel, a complete stranger was nice enough to point out that we had horse #@*# on our backs...

Arch Rock

St. Anne's

Stone Church

In front of the Grand Hotel...this is as close as non-registered guests are supposed to get. (No, we didn't stay there)

This is us sitting on the front porch of the Grand Hotel....a very nice lady told us to keep our mouths shut and walk in with her. When we approached the hotel, they asked if we were staying there, and she said "Yes, I am". We just walked right next to her. We didn't stay around long, but we did sit on the porch for a whole 2 minutes!
