Columbia River Gorge

On Saturday we headed east to see the beautiful Columbia River Gorge. It was about 60 miles of breathtaking views. We drove all the way through it until we came out in what is apparantly the beginnings of the Oregon desert country. It was interesting to see how quickly the geography changed from lush, rain forest-like land to dry, sparse vegetation. We then crossed over the river and returned west on the Washington side of the river.

We pulled off on a historic highway, not knowing what we would find and we found some of the coolest waterfalls. The first one was "Waukeehna Falls"

We were both amazed by how tall the trees were...

These are some pictures of the beautiful trail we hiked up to get a closer look at the falls. We were amazed at the lushness of the forest...it almost felt like we were in a rainforest.

We saw some cool creatures on our little hike. This was one of the many large slugs we saw. Of course, finding these forest friends was a highlight for Sydney.

This is the higher part of the falls that we saw when we hiked up the path. You could cross in front of them and they sprayed us - Kayleigh hated it!

This was the view of the Columbia River Gorge from the falls

And then we came upon "Multnomah Falls"...
As you can see, they were absolutely breathtaking! There were upper and lower falls with a cool bridge in between. I don't know how I managed to get the one picture without anyone on the bridge because there were lots of people there!

These are "Horsetail Falls"

There was so much moss on the trees - I think because of all the rain they get and the mist from the falls.
