Eastern Oregon

We headed to eastern Oregon this weekend for some cabin camping at Emigrant Springs State Park. It wasn't until after I made the non-refundable/non-changeable reservations that we realized just how far it was (3.5 hours). We almost didn't go, but decided there wasn't anything in particular we wanted to stay near Portland for...so we packed our camping gear and headed east.

It was supposed to be sunny and in the 50s/60s and we were prepared for that kind of weather. But just before we arrived at the State Park, we began ascending into the Blue Mountains. And when we pulled into Emigrant Springs, we were surprised to find several inches of white stuff on the ground. We were not prepared. Thankfully the cabin had heat, although the cabin felt like a sauna.

Leave it to us to leave Portland when it's sunny and 60 and drive east to a snowy campground. We had a beautiful drive along the Columbia River...it's so fascinating to watch the landscape change along the way, from mountains and forests to deserts and plains.

Co you see the tip of snow? We think that's the top of Mt. Adams in Washingto.

Because there was so much snow at our campground, and we didn't have snow gear, we headed back to the valley to find something to do. We found a couple parks for the girls to play at...at one there was this cool "merry go round/jungle gym" thing.

Then we headed back to our snowy campground to make dinner.

Our cabin

Kayleigh took these...

This is a very wide part of the Columbia...

And there are many windmills after The Dalles

As we were driving home today, we saw incredible views of Mt. Hood. It was so neat to see Mt. Hood from this perspective... I took LOTS of pictures because I thought it was cool!
