Sunday Hike

Because of the intense cloud cover over the Portland area, we drove east again this week to find sunshine. We hiked in the Catherine Creek area on the Washington side of the Columbia. This was pretty much directly across the river from where we hiked last week. We were far enough east to find a more desert-like terrain and we enjoyed some beautiful views of the river. Once again, we would have had a spectacular view of Mt. Hood had it not been completely covered in clouds.

We were once again treated to a wide variety of wildflowers. We saw so many new (to us) ones today...I am just amazed at how these wildflowers just accessorize and sometimes blanket the terrain!

At the end of our hike, we saw these two snakes mating. It was very cool to see them coiled up, but they weren't thrilled that they had a crowd watching them.
