Narnia the Lizard

Let me start by saying I have crickets on my kitchen counter....(which I can hear chirping as I type)

and mealworms in my refrigerator...

WHY?!?! Well let me explain.

Sydney begs us weekly (sometimes daily) for a pet. We think she is finally understanding that we mean "no" when we say "no" to the request for a furry family member.

Still...she wants a pet. She began saving her money for a blue tongued skink, but they are pricey little lizards, and we recommended an anole. Kevin and I told her we would buy her an anole for her birthday, but she would have to buy the cage and other "necessities".

So last weekend we went to Petco, and she bought a 10 gallon tank. Then, much to her delight, she worked on finding things for the habitat. Yesterday, on her BIG DAY, we went back to Petco and bought the anole.

Meet Narnia the lizard....

at first he was green

but buy evening he was brown

then this morning he was green again, and currently he is brown...

I like these pictures....Narnia was actually on the other side of the tank and what you are seeing is his reflection. (we are guessing it's a he - kind of hard to tell on a lizard)

And here he is, perched on a leaf in his new habitat, created and built by habitat expert, Sydney Foley.
Welcome to the family, Narnia. May you live longer than 2 weeks.

  1. So my first pet @ 7 years old was an AKC chocolate lab - Baron von Brown ("Brownie") - but our other family pets consisted of rabbits, fish, a snail (that had at least 80 snails - we're still not sure how George turned into Georgette), prairie dogs, gerbils (the first was George Punk Crockett Hood), a guinea pig, and an iguana - Sir Maximilliondependapont (that's the way I spelled it). Needless to say, he went by Max. We had a heat rock, lettuce, worms, you name it... so gross to look back and think of all that. When I got Max, it was Christmas (my aunt and uncle got him for me - my sister got the rabbit) - he came with painted toe nails (red!) for the holidays... he lived a year or so before turning brown and shriveling up. It was sad - he was a big guy! I hope Narnia makes it longer than two weeks! Oh - we had birds too.

  2. I don't remember being a certain age to have a pet...we had dogs and cats right from the beginning...family pets. Rabbits though, they were my pets, my responsiblity. WE had indoor rabbits that were litter trained and then outdoor rabbits too. Currently in our house we have 2 family cats and a family fish that I think will never die!

  5. He looks wonderful! You are brave - I am a wimp when it comes to animals. We have two dogs and a cat and I am generally o.k. with the furry animals that are not rodents but anything with skin or, even worse, scales, would totally gross me out. I love the looks on your girls' faces... they are obviously in love :-).
