Saturday we spent a lovely day as a family hiking. We drove 60 miles east to The Dalles and then crossed the river to Washington. We saw some petroglyphs at Horsethief State Park.
This was looking out at Horsethief Lake. We saw some people on top of those rocks, so we headed over there to check it out.
When we got out of the car and looked back toward the west, we saw this breathtaking view of Mt. Hood!
Then we started hiking around these rocks.
We also had beautiful views of the Columbia River.
And we saw a fair share of wildflowers.
After rounding one corner of the trail we saw a large group of rock climbers. The rock walls aren't very high for climbing. We think this must have been a class or something.
This is the view we had eating our lunch. I took this picture so you can see the back of Sydney's shirt - Mision Predisan in Honduras.
One of our goals (hopes) was to see/catch a lizard. We brought along a net, in hopes of seeing some, but we didn't see any while we were walking around. We were close to the parking lot when I spotted this guy. He stayed still enough and we were able to catch him. Poor thing must have lost his tail from a previous close call. We got a nice good look at him before letting him go.
I used the restroom while the others went to the car. When I walked out I saw this snake, just sitting right next to the trail, right outside the bathroom. I called to Kevin and the girls and they got there in time to see it. As you can see, it was a rattlesnake and when it got out of our way, it actually trapped itself. You'll see how much this guy is rattling at us.
I agree with Kayleigh!!!!
ReplyDeleteGet me out of there with a rattlesnake!!!!!! crazycrazy!!!
I do enjoy your saturday hikes. Beautiful!!!
I had to laugh - Kay takes after both her grandmothers. I would have been sitting in the car with all the doors & windows locked!
ReplyDeleteWe all agree with Kay, I wouldn't have stayed around that long watching a rattlesnake! Cool to watch the video though.
ReplyDeleteLove the pics from the hike. Gorgeous country.
