We are back from our great adventure - aka the Foley Comedy of Errors.
Leave it to us to plan, anticipate and then be bombarded with disappointments. I'm not trying to be negative, just let you know that this adventure of ours didn't exactly live up to our expectations. You'll see what I mean as you read more....
For now, I give you part of day 1 - our ferry ride from Anacortes, WA to Sidney, BC. We chose this particular ferry because it went through the San Juan Islands - a place Kevin has always wanted to see.
We set off from our hotel (where we unintentionally left our fan in our room - ug!) and went to wait for the ferry. While waiting, we walked around a bit and Kayleigh managed to step in dog poop. We didn't realize it until she had gotten back in the van and walked all around. (double ug!) Not able to get it out of the carpet, we rolled it up (the carpet piece is an old remnant from one of our previous homes) and threw it in the dumpster. The ferry left at 8:25 am and we were excited to see what we could see. This is Kevin and the girls on the outer part of the ferry - they had seating like this on both ends - not quite indoor, not quite outdoor.
There were a couple outdoor decks for the crazy people who felt the need to not miss a single thing. As you can see, it was cloudy, windy and quite cool.
The ferry made a stop at Friday Harbor, where quite a few more people got on.
These mountains that appear to be "floating" are the Olympic mountains of Washington.
Here they are again from Vancouver Island.
And I'll leave you with a short video clip taken from the ferry.
The mountains are so pretty! That stinks about the dog poop (pun intended :P). What kind of fan did you leave? It looked chilly there!
ReplyDeleteIt was chilly on the ferry. We sleep with a fan on - we're white noise addicts. We had taken our good one (because it's loud) to drown out all the extra hotel noise we anticipated hearing. We did stop by on our way home and picked it up.
ReplyDeleteI love the ferry. Warmer days are better, but still a fun experience! I have a question for you: do kids need passports? I'm sure I could look up the answer, but thought you might be able to tell me in a jiffy. Adam wants to go up to Van. Island (I think that is what it is called). we need to put a date on the calendar to get together!!
ReplyDeleteShelly - I'm not sure about the passport thing. Our girls do have them, so we use them. I'm thinking there is a cheaper id card you can get and use between the US and Canada, but I'm not sure. You do need something for the kids, though....
ReplyDeleteIt's Vancouver Island and that's where we were. It's very expensive there, so be prepared. We were a little shocked by the prices of everything.
Mark and I took a ferry one time between WI and lower MI...that was quite fun. It was cold on our ferry ride to if I remember correctly.
