Another Garden Update

I can't stop taking pictures of my sunflowers. They are just beautiful....

I love this one with the pollen on the bees legs....

Here's a look at the garden...

I have some sunflowers along the fence on the other side of the yard as well. They have started blooming too.

Currently in the garden we have eggplant that is growing...

green peppers....

the tomatoes are ripening...

and we still have LOTS of zucchini. Next year I need to remember that I don't need 5 zucchini plants!

Here's Syd standing next to the sunflowers. They are over the fence now.

We also have quite a few banana peppers that are ready...

our current tomato harvest

That's all.....how's your garden?

  1. I wish our garden looked as good as yours. Something went horribly wrong this year. We have had one thing after another go wrong. Our cucumbers are about the only thing still going strong... we just pulled up the tomato plants and pepper... the carrots are still growing - we pulled one just to check on it and so far, so good!

Have you measured the sunflowers? They are SO TALL!

  2. I haven't measured them. A couple years ago, when we lived in Minnesota, we had a sunflower grow taller than our 2-story house - it was unbelievable!

Of all my gardening attempts, this is my most successful. I'm taking notes and making diagrams for next year's.

Read the book "Square Foot Gardening" - it was quite helpful, although I ended up not following the method exactly.

  3. Taller than a 2-story house?! That has to be a record!

We have that book. D read it cover to cover. Still, something went wrong. We kept notes too so hopefully that will help next year. We think it was something with the combination of stuff for the soil, but we're not 100% sure.

  4. Now that I think of it, I realize I exaggerated....it did go past the roof, but only of the first story. I could see it out Sydney's bedroom window which was on the second floor. I'll have to see if I can find a picture of it.

I have a friend who also followed the book and her garden failed miserably. I did not do anything special to the soil - or use the combination the book recommends. We just got dirt delivered and that's all we used. Must have been some good dirt!
