Backyard Scientist

This presentation was completely unprompted and unrehearsed. This is Sydney....my little backyard scientist. She really did collect pupa from her lizard cage (uneaten mealworms who turned into pupa) and then let them hatch into beetles. I knew she had a yellow bucket of something or others in the garage, but didn't realize she was doing an experiment.

In her own, lispy words, this is the life cycle of a darkling beetle....

As I type this, she's just come down and shown me that the catterpillar she put in her treasure chest has made a cocoon. I'm sure my house is crawling with various creepy unknowns because of this girl....

  2. We try to keep all critters outside, but she isn't the most focused child and "forgets" to keep them outside. Like the caterpillar - I had no idea that was in her room - makes me wonder what else is in the house.
