Yesterday was an exciting day for us...Kevin and I are blown away by generosity of the members of our church. For the past several weeks we have been collecting donations for Operation Christmas child shoeboxes and yesterday was "pack the boxes" day. I was hoping for 5-10. Guess how many are packed so far?
Fifty......50
The girls and I have to go pick up more empty shoeboxes today because there was enough stuff left over to fill another 5.
Then in the evening, we returned to church for the showing of 58: the film. I was a little nervous about the turnout, but was pleasantly surprised to see a full church. I was able to speak briefly about Compassion's role in this initiative and had several ways for people to respond if they felt moved to do so.
Here is what the set-up looked like.
We had a sample net hung over a cot - I had several kids come up and ask about this. It's so neat to have such wonderful visuals.
I also had a table with child packets, CSP brochures and Water of Life sample kit and brochures.
Here's what the water from our rain bucket looked like. After being filtered, it tasted as good as water from the tap.
I am so pleased (really I'm bursting with joy, excitement and praise) that all 6 children were sponsored!
All 6.
We also had enough donations for 5 mosquito nets.
If you know me at all, then you know how much I love encouraging others in their sponsorship experience. To be able to encourage people within my own church family is a wonderful thing.
If you have not seen the film 58:, I highly encourage that you head over to www.live58.org and request your film screening kit. The message is powerful. Kevin and I have found that although it's a heavy topic, it's inspiring and exciting to know we can be part of ending extreme poverty. God has called all of us to this. This is hopeful work.
If you want to know more or have questions, I'm here.
