When Sydney turned 7 I decided it was time to finally and completely stop sucking her thumb. We've talked about it in the past, but haven't really done anything to help her stop. Since she mostly sucks her thumb at night, I began putting a really big bandaid on her thumb every night. Then we ran out of big bandaids.
So I started making my own out of gauze and tape. And we would try to reuse them for at least a couple nights. Without fail, though, I forget and a couple minutes after we've put her to bed, she will call down asking me, reminding me, that I need to cover her thumb.
Today we were at Target and their gloves were on clearance - 70 cents a pair! So I let Sydney pick out a pair and then came home to alter them. Now we have a reusable solution that she can put on herself.
I'm so glad Kayleigh isn't a thumb sucker! I was, and I remember how hard it was to stop.
I was 12 when I finally stopped...embarrassing, I know...
ReplyDeleteLove it! Great idea and really pretty gloves!!! Did you buy a bunch for children's outreach?
ReplyDeleteGreat idea! Michael is a thumb sucker and I go back and forth about really trying to stop it. It's great that she wants to stop, too! I'm sure that makes it much easier. I just go with the theory that it'll build his immune system...
ReplyDeleteGreat idea...I will check Target next time I am there for gloves of our own for our own thumb suckers!
