Reading to Gracie

Our local library has a "Read to a dog" program and Sydney and Kayleigh got to read to beautiful Gracie yesterday.

It's really about giving kids an opportunity to practice reading aloud. Kayleigh did not want to read to the dog prior to going, but once we got there she asked to go first. She did a fantastic job!

And Sydney, well she's just amazing when it comes to reading. Miss Bev (the woman who brought Gracie) was very impressed with both girls. After Sydney read several pages of her novel, Miss Bev asked her to summarize what she just read. It was no surprise to me that Sydney could narrate back to her since we do narration almost daily, but Miss Bev was pleasantly surprised.

  2. The dog did not seem to take the reading seriously. She couldn't follow any of the stories. I was very disappointed in the dog's listening comprehension. She was lost after only a few pages of Kay's simple book. Next week I'm signing the girls up for 'read to a potted plant' instead.

  3. Read to a Dog, huh? Weird. I hope said dog was able to appreciate it. I'm going to send the boys out to the chickens tomorrow :)
