Valentine's Day

We started out our day with a visit to our favorite, local coffee shop. The girls took their violins and played Mrs. Barb a couple tunes. She's an elderly lady who owns and single handedly runs the coffee shop and has become quite special to us.

For decorations I made this cute heart thingy. I know a lot of people have been getting ideas from Pinterest lately, but this one came straight out of my head. I have no doubts that Pinterest is full of cute ideas, but I don't need a list of ideas that I think I need to try.

Another idea that came out of my own head was to cover the table with paper and write love messages all over it. I asked Kevin to humor me last night and he got more into it than I thought he would.

He wrote some personal notes and then created this math puzzle.

When all the problems were solved and the letters were determined, the message read "You R Cuter than Juniper" (our hamster). The girls thought this was great, and sure made math more fun today.

Then there was the food...snacks in heart shaped baking pans.

Cut out cookies

And our "red" dinner ~ a tradition from Kevin's childhood that his mom still carries out for the grandkids. Our dinner this year was spaghetti and I made noodle hearts on each plate.

After dinner Sydney was STILL working on the tablecloth. They asked me to leave it out yet tomorrow. They also asked me to do this for every holiday.

We finished our evening with a family rock climbing session at the local community college.

What did YOU do for Valentine's Day?

  4. What a wonderful Valentines Day you had! I love the paper table cover idea! How cute that Kevin got so into it! I'm so happy that the red dinner tradition carries on - even on the west coast!
