A Day in the Life

Today was not a typical day, but I'm not sure we ever have typical days.

I took some extra time before going to bed last night to prepare for school and by prepare I mean make it a little more fun and special.

I woke up at 6:30 am for my favorite part of the day ~ time alone! I love having an hour or more to myself in the morning.

Around 8:30 am we got around to breakfast. I set up a little table in the living room and we had our "restaurant" there.

After breakfast clean-up we headed to violin.

goofy and cute ~ a lovely combination

Then it was time for school work... Bible, math, reading, writing, history

Then this girl....

taught this girl....

....how to do ballet.
They were rehearsing for a big show which was held after dinner.

Right after lunch there was some spontaneous art ~ watercolor painting again.

Then it was time for my second favorite part of the day....quiet time. Each of us went our separate ways to do whatever we wanted for an hour and a half. The girls go to their rooms. I heard them talking quite loudly so I went up to remind them that quiet time is alone time. Sure enough, they were each in their rooms, but they were talking to each other through the wall.

After quiet time we ran some errands, then went for a walk around our neighborhood. Well, I walked. Sydney biked and Kayleigh scooted. I love this arrangement. I can get a nice, brisk, 3 mile walk in and they don't get tired from trying to keep up with me...it's me that has to keep up with them!

Not wanting to make dinner, I announced that the girls could make me dinner. They were very excited and set about to creating the perfect restaurant.

This girl worked on my honey yogurt parfait

while this girl made me a grilled cheese

They were shocked that I let them do this. I had to keep helping them as they didn't even know how to turn the stove burners on. But I let them try to figure out as much as they could and only helped them when they asked me to.

I was shocked at how well they did. And I gently reminded them to clean up after they were done preparing the food and they did!

My only complaint is that I kept catching this girl with licking her fingers.

My appetizer was carrots and ranch dressing. This was a little tricky to eat, but I eventually just asked for a fork. At one point Kayleigh came over and asked if she could have some of my "sanitizer". I think she meant "appetizer".

Next I had a honey yogurt parfait. Basically just yogurt covered in whipped cream and honey with a strawberry on top (and some sprinkles).

Then I got grilled cheese - with a strawberry on top!

And my dessert was a sundae (with more whipped cream and another strawberry!) This also had caramel drizzled on top and a chocolate surprise.

my lovely servers (I can't get over how old they are looking!)

After dinner was the big show ~ Dragon Girl

There was twirling

and sword fights

even a tragic death

But then there was more dancing

and toe pointing.

Finally there was a big bow at the grand finale.

It was a great show.

And the day ended with silliness, as it does most days.
