Today after my morning Bible study, we went to our pastor's home to dig up some free plants....fox
gloves, bleeding hearts and ferns.
The girls also snagged a big sac of fish eggs/tadpoles. They are very excited (as if we don't have enough frogs at our house!) This will be our science for the month.
Brooke, our pastor's youngest daughter who happens to be a favorite babysitter, was throwing out her trophies. For some reason my girls "need" trophies and they each got to pick one.
Now on to gardens....the girls have their own little garden going. I've tried to explain to them that planting a garden under a shade tree is probably not the best location, but I guess they'll have to learn the hard way. The main plant you see right there in the middle is a potato that we pulled out of the compost - it had sprouted and begun growing a plant, so Sydney planted it.
Also a resident of the new garden is Reflection - one of Sydney's fish. : (
Personally, I love these little signs they made. I had no idea they did this until I went out there today. Very clever if I say so myself.
I haven't planted anything in the main garden yet, but this artichoke plant is doing quite well. It's actually a bit too big and I don't really like artichokes so I'm going to move it to the flower garden and use it as an interesting filler.
We've got some cilantro coming up voluntarily. I started pulling it out because I thought it was a weed, but then I recognized the delicious fragrance and left it alone.
And the strawberries are growing. Last year we got 4 or 5 berries - this year we are hoping to double that!
