Watch This, Then Let Us Know What You Think

If you have an hour this week, I would encourage you to watch THISIt's a sermon/talk given by Francis Chan that addresses our response, as Christians, to a world full of people in need.

Then please come back and let us know what you think.

I'm sure you'll have an emotional response right away, but give yourself some time to think about it, and then come back here so we can have a conversation.

  1. Im curious if people think Chan is:

    1. crazy (he's lost touch with reality and financial stewardship)
    2. right, (and we just dont have enough faith)
    3. Biblicaly correct but practically incorrect
    4. Making an emotional fallacy in his argument

It might just take a while to load...that's what some people were telling me over at Compassion Family. If not, you can go to Compassion Family and I have the web address there.

  4. Haha...I could open it and I've been watching it in bits and pieces when I have a moment :) I don't think he's crazy but I do see him as overly idealistic. My first rambling thoughts when hearing this (and I admit I'm not even all the way done yet) were that God has a specific call for everyone. Everyone could not just give everything away or our economy would fail and would emulate the third world and that doesn't help anyone (in the big picture). Capitalism is the best (most just?) system we've come up with and that requires people to have things and allows people to have meaningful work. So some people need to be 'rich' and invest their wealth in things that might not seem to us as directly helping the poor but indirectly they are doing MORE by providing jobs (and dignity) and a growing thriving economy where the poor can be raised up rather than just temporarily satisfied. Is that too much conservatism and not enough Christianity? I don't think so. I do COMPLETELY agree that most of us are the rich and could give away triple or quadruple what we do. We're trying to get out of debt so that we can be freer to give. So there's my initial thoughts :)
