A couple months ago we bought a praying mantis egg sac that promised to hatch up to 200 baby praying mantises. We were getting discouraged that despite the rise in temperature here, we still had not seen any babies.
Our cousins in NY had a sac that hatched.
Our friends here in OR had a sac that hatched.
But ours sat empty and appeared to be a dud.
Until this week.
They are so, so tiny. Here you can see the push pin and can see how small they are.
No one needs this many pictures of baby praying matises, but I couldn't choose just one. I like this one because you can also see the egg sac.
What excitement is happening in your back yard?
where would one purchase a praying mantis egg sack? sounds like a perfect thing for our backyard.
ReplyDeleteWe got ours at Fred Meyer in the garden section. I'm not sure if Lowes or Home Depot have them or not. I'm sure you can also order them on line.
DeleteYay! Glad they hatched for you! We haven't seen ANY of them since we released them in the garden! Oh well...
