Master Bathroom Remodel

Over the weekend we put the finishing touches on our master bath remodel and are officially done! We are so happy with the results. The final result is better than we imagined. It's not perfect - we aren't professionals, but it's pretty darn good.

The process was tough - from beginning to end, not a single thing went as planned or was easy. First the tile - Kevin came home early one day from work to get started on it, spent 4 hours laying it and then realized the mortar he used was crap. So the next day the girls and I, and then eventually Kevin scraped it all off.

Then there were the faucets. I really wanted new ones as the old ones were dated and impossible to clean. It turns out they were welded on and the only way to get them off was to break the sinks. I told Kevin to just keep the old ones on, but by this time they were destroyed from trying to pry them off. New sinks had to be bought.

We took the backsplash tile off, but it didn't come off without leaving big holes in the walls. And the light fixture also revealed a big hole which wouldn't be fully covered by the new light fixture. And then all the new towel racks and toilet paper holder had completely different mounts and had to be placed differently as they needed studs.

And painting the cabinets....let's just say I imagine I'll be repainting them in the near future. Despite researching and using a special primer that is supposed to eliminate the need for sanding, we keep making scratches every time we open a door.

There were more mishaps, but I won't bore you with all the details. Instead I'll show you pictures

To refresh your memory, here are before pictures.... notice the carpet and the dated light fixture

The lovely tile and faucets I wanted to get rid of....

And here's what it looks like now....I'm in love with the color gray!! We tiled the floor (using the same tile we used in the 1/2 bath) and tiled behind the sinks. We kept the original tile around the bath and on top of the counter around the sinks. It's not a perfect match, but it blends.

My new tile and faucet (and sink too!)

This smaller room with the shower and the toilet is painted very light gray. I didn't want it too dark in there with the dark floor and no windows. I think this is the perfect color.

We added 3 drawer pulls to the drawers which is so nice.

Even the plant got a new pot!

I love how the color of the wall matches the tile. And my blinds were already gray so now they are beautiful instead of an eye-sore.

What do you think? Would you hire us? I think we're totally burnt out on remodeling! Too bad because I have dreams for the other bathroom and the laundry room...not to mention the kitchen!

  1. Wow! You did a great job! I'd hire you in a second! It looks so sleek & modern. I love the colors and I love the tile floor. You have a very good eye for blending colors. I can't wait to use it!! Bet you're glad that job is over but it must feel so good to have accomplished it.
