After hearing about the devastating tornadoes that whipped through central Illinois this morning, I called my dad to check on some family members. It's hard to hear about disaster touching the places you know so well - especially when you know so many people who might have been affected. Thankfully, it appears the friends and family I know who live in the affected areas are fine. Still...there is still so much devastation.
When talking to my dad, he gently pointed out that I've been a bit slack about posting here lately. It's true. My heart just hasn't been in it (blogging), but I 'll do my best to get back into a more regular posting schedule here.
We had a busy morning at church....Kevin gave the communion message and I was with the kids helping pack shoeboxes for Operation Christmas Child. When we got home, we had a couple hours of free time until mom and Keith came back for one more night with us.
We had some unexpected nice weather, so we spent some time outstide. First as a family shooting paintballs and then Kay and I went for a walk.
Syd volunteered to be a target so we padded her up and sent her to stand behind the wood panel.
After paintball, we headed home and Kay and I went for a walk to our local park. It was a lovely afternoon for a walk. Although most of our leaves are fallen, there are still a few full trees.
We found some very cool fungi to photograph. (and trees, and squirrels and other things)
So there you have it. That's a glimpse into our afternoon. In the evening we were treated to a Book 2 Violin graduation...I'll post about that later.
So glad to hear your family is safe. I was thinking about them when I first heard and there was a mention of Peoria! So sad, so much devastation- prayers with them all.
ReplyDeleteMy mom is actually out here with me - they fly home today. But my step-sister lives in Washington - she was about 3 blocks from a neighborhood that was flattened. Most of Morton is without power - I'm sure most of the surrounding towns are too. I'm so glad I don't live there anymore....I hate tornadoes and severe weather....
DeleteThank you for letting us know that everyone in your family is alright. I was thinking the same thing-wondering how close the tornadoes came to Peoria. I can't imagine how scary it must be to experience a devastating storm like that and to suffer such a severe loss. Our prayers are with them. Your Mom and Keith must feel grateful they were out West. God bless them all.
