Phuket

Thursday, March 27th ended up being a horrible day - the worst of the trip. I thought we were flying directly from Chiang Mai to Phuket. When we got to the airport, we realized we were flying through Bangkok, so it was two flights, not one.

Our flight out of Chiang Mai was late and were nervous about missing our connecting flight. We were flying Bangkok Airways and they bus you to and from your plane. So even if you are one of the first off the plane, you can't run to your next gate. You get on a bus and wait for every other person to get off the plane.

Thankfully (I guess), our next flight was delayed so we didn't miss. Unfortunately, they kept delaying the flight and eventually cancelled it. We got assigned a new flight and finally got in to Phuket at 9pm,...4 hours later than we were supposed to.

To make matters worse, Sydney was sick off and on all day. Every time we transitioned from air condition to the heat (so airplane to bus), she would throw up. She continued to throw up all through our hotel check-in. Lovely.

Then...once we finally got to the island of Phuket, we had an hour drive to the hotel.

We stayed at Centara Karon - at Karon beach. There are several main beaches on the island of Phuket and this was supposedly the more family friendly one. There is one that is described as being similar to Miami. Also, in Phuket city, there is quite a bit of prostitution....we didn't see any of that.

Our resort was nice, though not right on the beach. It had three different swimming pools and a couple different restaurants. Our room was a "villa" and we had our own little hot tub (which we never used).  Our room also happened to be infested with mosquitoes. We were handed a bottle of spray - poison - to use in the room. Also lovely.

Anyway, here are some photos of the resort and nearby beach. It was beautifully landscaped.

Just a short (5 minute) walk from the resort was Karon Beach on the Andaman Sea...

  1. The resort looked beautiful but ugh! mosquitoes in your room-awful! In fact the journey sounds so grueling & hard! I can't even imagine.
