Tuesday, March 25th, we piled into the trucks and drove to Mae Sot's little airport. There we met a group of 10 people from Canada and New Mexico who were traveling with Samaritan's Purse. Samaritan's Purse supports FBR and this group was going to spend the week with FBR seeing their work along the Thailand / Burma border.
After picking them up, we piled into the trucks (the new group got the van so Dave could talk to them all at once about FBR) and we drove 5 hours through the mountains and jungle. Kevin couldn't sit comfortably inside the truck, so he sat in the back - in the truck bed - in the blazing hot sun.
I really wish we could have stopped a few times so I could have gotten some good jungle pics. There were banana trees growing everywhere in the jungle. And some of the coolest trees that looked like giant ferns.
Instead I snapped some not so great photos from the back seat of the truck.
We passed many large buddhas like this one...
And in the cities, there are big billboards with pictures of the king and queen on them like this one.
Here is a side market with animist shrines and idols available for purchase.
This was a rest stop...great place to buy some water, ice cream and souvenirs.
These are examples of the shrines you see everywhere - gas stations, restaurants, houses - everywhere.
Lunch stop....they were expecting us and the food was ready (because we were a couple hours late...)
next up...Burma
