Hiking Broken Top

When we first planned our trip to Bend, our intention was to backpack/hike up South
Sister. We were going to backpack into Moraine Lake, set up camp and then summit the next morning. Then we decided maybe we'd skip setting up camp and just try to summit all in one day. After we arrived in Bend and realized we forgot to pack our trekking poles and Kayleigh's hiking boots, we decided to skip South Sister all together and just hike the glacier of Broken Top.

Just getting to the trailhead was an experience. It was 25 minutes of slow driving on a very bumpy, dirt road. But finally we made it and started out.

See the snow...that's where we were headed.

We walked trails until they ended, then walked through this rocky field and snow patches.

Finally we just climbed up this pretty steep stream that was coming from the glacier just above.

When we reached the glacier, we saw this patch of snow that slightly resembled the USA.

It was a great hike - not too hard, not too long, but VERY rewarding!
