Saturday

We fully intended to get the boat out on the river and go for a sail on Saturday - we haven't gone at all this summer. Well...Kevin went once, but it was just him and a friend. We weren't sure what the wind would be like, but our plan was to sail.

Instead we woke to rain.

It did clear around lunch so we headed into a park in Portland just to get out and walk around. Kevin had an evening commitment so we couldn't go far.

Portland has some pretty nice parks and Mt. Tabor is quite cool. It's been a while since we'd been there, so it was nice to get back. It's actually an extinct volcano right in the middle of the city.

It did start to rain while we were at the playground, so we took refuge under the play structure. Then we headed up the hill.

And found the coolest tree....doesn't it look like a portal into another world?

We tried jumping off it to see where it might take us....

We weren't thrilled with the girls' jumping abilities so here Kevin is instructing them where to jump and then he jumped with them.

Finally I had to step in and just show them how it's done...

We walked past a wedding and then headed down some trails towards this water reservoir and our car.

It was cool to look at the city and SEE the rain coming. It came pretty quickly and we ended up running like crazy people to the car. I felt so sorry for the wedding....it just doesn't rain in August so I'm sure they didn't have any second thoughts of planning an outdoor wedding.

  1. I love how you find fun even when your plans are thwarted. Looks like a terrific park. I can just hear the stories those trees inspired with the girls! I bet their imaginations were going full force! Jill, I vote for you as the best jumper of the family-sorry Kevin!
