Nicaragua 2015 ~ Driving Through the Streets of Managua

As you drive through the streets of Managua, it's very apparent that you are in a third world country. I saw very few nice buildings...most were structures put together with various materials. I always find the road-side stores interesting and so different from what I'm used to.

One of the most interesting things we saw were these giant tree sculptures. We asked about them and got conflicting answers so I did a little research.  They are beautiful and the ones we saw were in the traffic roundabouts. It seems the first lady loves art and these are heavily inspired by Gustav Klimt's Tree of Life.
Because of their cost ($20,000 each) and their various possible meanings, they are quite controversial. I found this article about them to be insightful.
