Yesterday we tackled Dog Mountain and today my legs are as sore as they were after the 1/2 marathon! Dog Mountain is a very popular hike in the Gorge - on the Washington side. It's pretty difficult - 7 miles round trip - with quite an elevation gain. About a mile in you have a choice to make....longer and less difficult to the top, or shorter and more difficult to the top. We always choose longer and less difficult.
May is peak for wildflowers in these parts. Because of this, hikes like Dog Mountain (which is known for spectacular wildflower displays) are really busy this time of year. I thought going on a Monday would lessen the crowds, but it was still pretty busy. Hiking through the forest is always pretty, but even more so (I think) in spring.
We finally broke out of the forest and into the wildflowers. It was like the hills were singing in flowers. If Kevin reads this, I'm sure he'll make fun of me for this description.
You can hardly see it, but Mt. St. Helen's is visible through the clouds...it erupted 35 years ago yesterday.
WOW
