Turning 41

Last week, in anticipation of my birthday, the August fairy started showing up every day - sometimes twice a day!

Sunday evening the kids and Kevin sent me upstairs so they could decorate for my birthday....it's one of the few traditions we have. There was part of me that was wishing they wouldn't, but the next morning when I came down I was greeted to such a fun, creative display....

Sydney had made the lego display earlier in the week and then brought it down. I think that prompted Kevin to do the tomato, cucumber display. Then he saw the gardening gloves by the back door and did that one. And then it snowballed from there. Isn't it fun?

As I was on the phone with my mom, my doorbell rang and it was my dear friend Tabby and her two young sons (Liam is 2 and Rowan in 2 months!). They came to wish me a happy birthday.

Then the girls and I headed to the dahlia farm. Oh my goodness....I forget just how beautiful flower farms are and how much I enjoy seeing all the different varieties. I read on their website last night that they grow over 360 different varieties of dahlias.

I bought a beautiful bouquet and Kayleigh carried it around for me. I took over 200 pictures, so I'll post more tomorrow! (dont' worry, I won't post all 200). Here are a few from my instagram account....

When I got home I had another surprise. Not only was my mailbox full of birthday cards and wishes, I had a letter from Compassion. I secretly hoped it was from Portia in Ghana - she's my birthday buddy and was celebrating her sweet 16th yesterday. Sure enough, it was!!! In the letter she asked me how old I was....just a wee bit older than you my dear!

For dinner the girls and Kevin grilled steak and it was delicious! Then we had grasshopper pie (made my me and decorated by the girls).  Quite tasty! (you don't want to know the ingredients....)

Then it was present time...I love the cards the girls made me. I felt completely spoiled and loved all day.
