Weekend Concerts

We went to not one, but TWO concerts this weekend! First up was Amy Grant on Friday night - right here in Gresham at a church downtown. It was the "Live Life Together" tour with Nicole Nordeman and Ellie Holcomb. I had asked the girls if they'd be interested in joining Kevin and I, and they were. They wanted to see mom's "favorite all time musician".

I really enjoyed it, even thought it was quite mellow and low-key. The girls got tired quickly, but they don't know her music well and it was hard for them to stay interested. Ellie Holcomb was new to us and the girls really liked her. We grabbed her cd and have enjoyed listening to it already.

Saturday we drove north towards Seattle to the Washington State Fair grounds to see the Gothard Sisters. They are three sisters who play celtic music and are so fun to watch. We first saw them in December near Portland and have been wanting to see them again. Kayleigh is especially fond of their music, and Kevin and I have learned some of their tunes to play.

I'll spare you the story of how we got stuck in traffic, ended up parking 2 miles away and walking and ultimately missing the concert...We arrived just as they finished playing. BUT it was the first of 3 concerts that day, so after saying hi to them and getting photos, we walked around the fair to kill 2 hours.

Finally it was time for their second show and we were able to get front row seats! These girls are amazing. They were homeschooled...Suzuki students....and they got their start by playing at farmer's markets (sounds familiar). Each girl plays more than one instrument and all three sing and do Irish step dance.

Greta is the oldest

Willow is the middle sister

Solana is the youngest

As you look through the pics you'll see them playing their different instruments.

and here are a couple videos....

  1. What a fun, music-filled weekend! The Foley sisters fit right in with the Gothard sisters! They look like they could be their younger sisters! And Amy Grant, up close and personal! How exciting!!
