Before I show you my garden, I want to tell you the story of this adorable duckling and his rescue. Earlier in the week the girls were outside and noticed a mama duck in the pond that was quacking quite frantically and flying around a lot. Then they heard baby ducks peeping and discovered there was quite a few of them in our storm drain. After watching the mama panic for about an hour, we figured out a way to help them.
As the girls worked hard and struggled to "rescue" this little guy, the others and mama must have found a way to reunite because by the time we got this duckling out of the drain, all the others were gone. So, in our attempt to rescue, we managed to separate this little one from the rest of the family. We kept him safe in our garage over night, but the next day when looking for the mama and other ducklings at the lake, this guy squirmed out of Sydney's hands and went into the lake. We saw him swimming around a couple different times during the morning, but haven't seen him or the rest of the ducklings since.
And now on the garden....
Every year I get new ideas and add a little more. Last year I made this path to the end of the house, then also made a strip along the garden. This year I connected the two so it's one continuous path.
It's so fun to see how the plants grow and mature each year. I have some pretty amazing hostas and ferns.
This corner of the garden gets the most sun and has the best soil so it does really well!
And in this raised bed, the raspberries are thriving.
This year I planted zucchini, cucumbers, broccoli, green beans and celery in this space.
On the other side of the arbor I have strawberries and lettuce.
My favorite part of the garden, though, are the flowers. So many different types.
Here is a collage I put together on instagram.
when I think of how your yard looked when you first moved in, I can't get over how beautiful it is now! You truly have a green thumb and an artistic eye to create a lovely garden. So much work but so much beauty and bounty! Hope some of the veggies are ready when we come to visit this fall!
