The Deschutes River and Lava Lake

We had the opportunity to spend last week in Central Oregon for a lovely little vacation. Our first couple days there it was just the four of us, and then some friends from church joined us.

Monday we headed to Little Lava Lake, which is the source of the Deschutes River that flows through much of central Oregon. It's so shallow and narrow here at the source...more of a creek than a river.

Then we headed to Lava Lake (bigger than Little Lava Lake and right next to it). We found a good place to eat our lunch and enjoy the views.

Boat rental was surprisingly reasonable, so we spent a few hours exploring the lake.

There were a lot of ducks and birds and waterfowl along the marshy sides.

Then we stopped at Sparks Lake for another gorgeous view. On the left is South Sister and on the right is Broken Top.

And I took a pic of a stranger doing yoga poses on her paddle board.
