After visiting Rock of Cashel, we drove to the city of Kilkenny - the medieval capital of Ireland. We ate in a really old pub (Kyteler's Inn - one of the oldest inn's in Ireland) and then set off to explore the city by foot.
We found Kilkenny Castle easily enough and walked around the outside.
We found this odd sign, which I've since discovered means that this is a designated meeting spot in case of emergency.
The streets of Kilkenny were bright and fun. Most storefronts are painted in bright colors or have brightly painted doors.
We also walked past Smithwick's - another large brewing company. Each big town has it's own brewery and it was fun to try the local beers.
St. Mary's Cathedral
We wanted a photo of the two of us in front of these doors so we set up the camera and were trying to use the remote. The problem, however, is that we were too far away for the remote to work. If Kevin walked toward the camera he could get it to work, but that result makes it look like I've turned into a tiny person.
Finally some people passing by offered to press the remote button for us. The result...not a great pic.
That evening the police (called garda) blocked off the streets and soon a bicycle race began. They were looping and just kept going around and around.
We drank some beer and listened to some music at a pub before calling it a night.
When we got back to our hotel room, we could see the castle lit up from our window.
Such wonderful memories for you!! And brings back great memories for me! I'm sure that we ate at the same pub in Kilkenny and definitely sure we had a few Smithwicks!!
