Sunday Hike

Well...it's been a couple weeks since our last family adventure, and so we headed out today for a hike. We found some really cool, new trails to explore. These hikes always start out good, but a couple miles in we (Kevin and I) begin to question our wisdom. So we were trudging along, trying to make the 2 and 4 yr. olds walk, but also carrying them some. We ended up on a 5 mile loop...but saw a chance to make it shorter so we headed straight up the side of a pretty steep hill. We did get to the intended overlook, but then couldn't find the trail that would take us back to our car. We were lost for a while...but 3 1/2 hours later, we found the car!

This is a view of Marquette Mountain...our local downhill, ski place.

This was the view from the top...looking out over Marquette and Lake Superior.

This woodpecker was right in front of us. We saw a couple others, too. We also saw lots of wolf prints and a herd of deer jumped over a cliff and literally over Kevin and Kayleigh's heads as they were climbing up the steep part of the mountain.

This was toward the end of the hike...Syd plopped down for a rest.

This is the part you usually don't see....totally wiped out kiddos. Kayleigh actually fell asleep a couple times while we were walking and I was carrying her.

  2. Gorgeous! Sounds like you and the hubs must have been pretty tired after carrying the girls! Neat woodpecker!
