Picnic and Dahlias

After church we met our friends (our only friends here so far) at a cool park for a picnic.

I call these Dr. Seuss trees....

Second only to sunflowers, Dahlias are my favorite flowers. I think the reason I love sunflowers and dahlias is because they are so dramatic and really display God's creativity to me.

Saturday we went to the Farmer's Market and I bought a bunch of dahlias. I actually got a second bunch free (read story here) and got information about the farm where they are grown. Since it was a beautiful day, we drove down to see the farm.

Beware....I couldn't stop taking pictures and I couldn't help but post them all. As you look through them, notice how different each variety is. They had great names, too (bahama mama, tutti frutti, red devil, candy cane, etc.)

There was a Koi pond with enormous fish!

  1. Hey -- thanks for getting me hooked up here. I hope it will show up in my reader; not sure. Boy, you DID get carried away the flowers -- but they're all so gorgeous!

  2. What absolutely GORGEOUS dahlias!! I would love to see that farm! Your photography is awesome - those photos should be published in a gardening magazine! Now you've motivated me - I must try growing dahlias next summer in my garden! Portland is looking better and better! Here we come!

  4. Those are beautiful!!! Can I come pick some for my wedding flowers?! It must have been amazing to see all of the colors. Something about it reminds me of the story with the pots and how one pot had holes and water leaked out and so the pot felt bad and had low self esteem... when the pot asked its person about it the person said that they took the pot knowing it had holes because it watered the flowers on that side. It's a sweet story, there's more to it I think! :)
