Sydney's latest obsession is creating the perfect habitat for the frogs, grasshoppers and salamanders she finds. She's quite good at it. This is her frog habitat - deeper so the frogs can't get out as easily (although the smaller ones can jump right out!) Some water for them to swim in and mossy rocks for them to rest on.
And this is her salamander habitat - a shallower container because they can't climb up and get out. Again, water and rocks...

I don't think I ever posted a picture of what is next to our yard...I've mentioned we live next to a bog or swampy area, but here is a picture. Having our land back up to this and not another yard gives our lot a very spacious feel. We are both a little claustrophobic when it comes to living in neighborhoods, so this was definitely a nice bonus when we looked at the house. We've considered putting up a wooden fence, but not only is it really expensive ($2000 for this one side of the yard), it would make our yard feel much more closed in.
I stopped by Lowe's the other day and found some great perennials on clearance. Each one was at least 50% off, if not more. My options were limited due to the lateness of the planting season, but I knew I would spend a fortune in the spring. It's nice to have something started back there, and I'll still probably spend a fortune in the spring! I need to make friends with some gardeners who want to split and share their plants.

so far , your garden looks good. Great start!!!!!!

Love the habitats! We have a very very wet area, too...I hope your yard doesn't get too wet and I hope you don't get lots of mosquitoes! The garden will look beautiful come spring :) We also want to get some fencing but it is so cost-prohibitive! Hope we get to see your place in person soon!
