We woke up this morning and heard the tall trees and snowy trails calling our names. We stopped for a healthy birthday breakfast of donuts and then hit the trails.
There were quite a few others on the trails this morning. There were lots of snow-shoers (which was funny because they were not needed on this trail! I had mine on to begin with, but I kept tripping over them and ended up taking them off.)
Kayleigh, as usual, enjoyed much of her hike this way.
Kevin and Sydney skied the whole time...
Here are a couple pictures of the girls trying on the birthday crowns their cousins made. Sydney really enjoyed all the pictures and letters from her cousins. She was very excited to open them all this morning. We've been writing letters back and forth each month and it's neat to see the relationships forming across the miles.
One of the few traditions we have in our family is that the birthday girl gets to create and decorate her own cake. Sydney wanted a lion (Aslan from Narnia) and this is what she made.
She really wanted to write the Narnia letters on it, but we didn't have any good frosting tips. Kevin had the brilliant idea to paint the letters on and it worked well. She had so much fun doing this.
We had some Narnia themed decorations in the dining room...
And of course we thought of Yoselin, in the Dominican Republic....one of our Compassion children who was born the exact same day (and year) as Sydney.
Oh what fun and how pretty the trees and trails looked. I love the cake...very nicely done Sydney!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great day Syd!!!!!

Dear Sydney - I hope you had a wonderful birthday! It looks like you had a lot of fun. I love your lion cake. I do not know much about Narnia, but maybe you can share some things about it on your mom's blog! It would be fun to learn about. Lots of love, Gin
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday Sydney! We love you-Drew and Sarah were so proud to see their crowns on the girls and on your blog. they now want to make their own b-day cakes- great idea Jill! Decorating cakes is definitely not my specialty now it can be theirs!
ReplyDeleteA perfect birthday! I love your cake, Syd! I think you know how to celebrate.
