We postponed our return trip a day, so we didn't have to wake up before dawn and head back to Victoria. We were excited to have an extra day, but Kevin woke up not feeling good (gi issues). We started our curvy way back through the mountains (see videos). Our goal was to find a park and have a picnic breakfast (we bought a $5 box of oatmeal and had our jet boil to heat water).
After an hour or so of very curvy roads, Sydney threw up in the car. She said that the car ride made her feel "not so good". We didn't have a single napkin or towel to wipe up the mess. I ended up digging through the dirty laundry to find some socks and Kevin found 2 kleenex in his backpack.
Finally we stopped for some fresh air and breakfast.
We wanted to get another hike in and we had a "Hike Victoria" book from the library, so we chose a coastal hike and headed that way....Whiffen Spit in Sooke, BC. It was nice, but not overly exciting - probably not worth the 45 minutes out of our way. The mountains you see in the background are across the Straight of Juan de Fuca , looking into the Olymic Mountains of Washington.
From there we headed to our hotel. Kayleigh and Sydney had been looking forward to swimming again, and this hotel had an outdoor pool. Unfortunately, Kayleigh didn't get to swim because the her knees were hurting her too much.
Not wanting to spend another fortune on dinner (and Kevin was still not feeling well), we took the girls to Dairy Queen.
I wanted something a little more substantial than ice cream, so I got myself take out at Swiss Chalet. Kevin laughed when we drove by because they have one of these in Buffalo. So here I am, enjoying my chicken dinner (which was quite delicious, by the way).
You need to write a book about the Foley Family Adventures!!!! You both are such talented writers and your experiences are just too funny to not pass on. DQ looks great!!!!
ReplyDeletePoor Syd sick in the car...no fun. Worse yet not having much to clean it up...icky! She looks as though she recovered fine though and enjoyed the rest of the day.
