Camping Trip - Day 1

Kevin worked on Monday (Labor Day) and instead took off Friday. We wanted to go camping and wanted to avoid all the holiday crowds so this seemed like a good alternative. We had beautiful, warm weather. We returned to a campground we found last year, in central Oregon (just south of Bend).

We got there mid day and had plenty of time for fun. We found out the campground hosts would let us use a canoe all day for a $20 donation to their church - perfect!

The water in the marsh/lake was fantastic. It was crystal clear in some places and we were able to see trout swimming underneath us and all sorts of marsh plants growing up from the bottom. We also had some beautiful mountain views.

Broken Top Mountain

We also saw many ducks. We see mallard ducks all the time at our house, so it was fun to see some different species. The girls and I actually talked about ducks last week in school and learned about diving vs. dabbling ducks. We had never seen diving ducks until this weekend - at the end of this post I have a video of ducks diving into the lake for their food.

I like this picture so much that I put it in this post twice : ) Actually, I can't get it to delete, so I guess you just have to look at it again.

While I was sitting at the campsite alone, this bird came up to see if we had left any food behind.

Kayleigh took this one of us

making dinner (hot dogs)

and Jiffy Pop - a camping tradition

I'll post more about day 2 later....
