Kevin had the opportunity to climb Mt. Adams this weekend with two other guys. Our friend, Lorenzo, flew in from Illinois on Thursday night, and they (along with Nico) set off early Friday morning to tackle the second highest peak in Washington.
I'll do my best to explain the pictures, even though I wasn't there....
If you look closely, you will see Lorenzo and Nico hiking up...when you see them, you realize how steep this is. (click on the picture to enlarge)
There are some forest fires north of Mt. Hood right now and in this picture you can see the smoke rising and blowing to the east. Today the winds shifted and smoke covered Portland. It was eerie looking....
This is looking up at the summit from where they camped for the night.
Looking down from the campsite. If you look closely you can see round rock shelters - those are campsites.
At the campsite. They camped at 8,200 feet. The summit is a little more than 12,000 ft. Every time I look at this picture, I think Lorenzo and Kevin are holding hands.
Really early in the morning....really cold.
You can see the shadow of Mt. Adams in this picture...
loooking at Mt. St. Helen's (to the west)
This was taken from the "false summit". The other two guys were beat and only made it this far. Kevin went on up to the summit on his own.
My man on the summit - that's Mt. Rainier in the background.
Looking down on the Columbia River with Mt. Hood and Mt. Jefferson in the background.
