Our once young, happy, semi-active anole lizard is sick....
very sick
We don't know what is wrong. We've only witnessed him eating once in the past month or so. It's been weeks since he opened his eyes and all he does is lay around with his head down. He used to lay in the leaves or on the sticks but now we frequently find him laying on the bottom of the cage.
It's sad. We are all very surprised he is still alive at all. He does lick the water off the walls of the cage so that's probably what is keeping him alive.
Doesn't he look awful?
Sydney was glad he survived to her birthday. It was the one year anniversary of getting him.
Our hermit crab doesn't do anything.....just sits in the corner!
The hamster is active at least.
Poor girl needs a dog, but we aren't going down that path anytime soon.
Oh my goodness this makes me so sad! Did you try calling a vet to see what they'd recommend? Poor Narnia. My iguana, Sir Maxamilliondependapont (spelled just like that) died and looked very similar to Narnia. I don't know what happened to him either. I know they can catch mites or something like that. My reptile knowledge is limited these days but I used to know more. I'll say a prayer for Narnia and the girls. I imagine its hard for them to see him/her like that.
ReplyDelete...what about a cat?
I had one for THREE years...do you have a heat rock for him? He might not be eating because if he's not warm enough he wont be hungry...

I know thats a long link...but something like that might help.
Are you feeding him crickets or meal worms? Make sure they are small enough so he doesn't get intimidated...lol.
But really, he has to stay really warm...that's really important!!!
ps...A lot of sites will tell you NOT to get a rock...but when Stripe would eat, he would immediately climb onto his rock so his tummy could digest the food better.
ReplyDeleteAnd he lasted three years...who knows how old he was when we got him at the pet store...
Just sayin... ;)
We have a heat pad and he used to sit by that all the time. Other times he would sit up by the light (he's actually up there right now).
ReplyDeleteOver the past year we learned that he preferred meal worms to crickets. Today I saw him open his mouth for the first time (the one side of his mouth looks weird - crusty or something) and we were surprised he could still open it more than just sticking out his tongue to lick it. Anyway, I got the meal worms out and tried to feed him but he kept moving his head out of the way.
Pevensie, our other anole, died after only a couple months of having her. Ever since then Narnia has gone down hill.
I'm actually surprised he lasted a whole year! Part of the reason we chose an anole was because for $7 it could easily be replace when it died.
poor Narnia
ReplyDeletewish they could come to Grandma's to get their dog fix. That would help. praying for the situation
Hmmm....Im not a vet..but it might be mouth rot...when I had Stripe, we used to put this vitamin powder on his crickets before feeding them to him...it prevented mouth rot.
ReplyDeleteWe have the powder and we have put it on both meal worms and crickets. Maybe it is mouth rot....
ReplyDeleteI didn't really think this post would get so much attention!
Hahaha....I'm an animal lover and seeing Narnia's pictures brings back memories of 7-9th grade...and I would hate to see him die!!
ReplyDeleteAwww...poor Narnia! Maybe he is dying of a broken heart - he misses Pevensie. Did you consider getting him a new "friend" when Pevensie died? Perhaps he is too lonely to eat.
ReplyDeleteOh my, that IS sad! He looks so pathetic! Hope you can figure out what's wrong or that his um, 'time' comes soon...
