Our Week So Far

This has been an exhausting, yet fun week.

We started out the week with a last morning with Grandma.

And we've been busy with Vacation Bible School at our church

I'm a crew leader which means I have 7 kids in my group and we go from station to station together (praise and worship, Bible story, imagination station, snack, games and back to praise and worship). It's fun but exhausting (especially since our VBS runs from 6-8:30 pm). I'm also in charge of the mission component and we are raising money for mosquito nets through Compassion.

I'll be posting more about that on Monday over at Compassion Family.

And of course there's all the excitement about the skunk family who lives next door. The girls and I saw several the other day (yes, during the day) and when we got home from VBS Kevin said there were currently 5 in our backyard.

The next morning there was a dead one in our yard. Hmmm....must have been something in that peanut butter we left out.

How do you move a dead skunk?

Very carefully.

They stink pretty bad even when they are dead. One down, four to go. We saw the other four yesterday afternoon. It's made backyard play pretty non-existent this week.

And it's too bad because the yard and garden is so pretty.

The sunflowers are almost as tall as the fence now. I am eager for them to begin blooming!

The tomatoes are beginning to grow.

The frogs continue to hide in the leaves.

We are still getting strawberries.

And the zinnias are beginning to bloom. I planted these (and the sunflowers and marigolds) from seeds from last years flowers.

We even have grapes this year.

The zucchini plants are quite bountiful.

I made my first batch of zucchini bread (with dark chocolate chunks) today and it is delicious.

I brought in a bunch of herbs (mint, basil and dill) to wash and freeze and when I was cleaning up the counter I noticed this little guy. It's one of our baby praying mantises! Sydney carefully transported him back to the herb garden.

And Kevin is off climbing another mountain. This time it's Mt. Baker in Washington. Our friend Dave and his son Sam flew in late last night from Boston and they headed up there this morning. It's a two day climb - they climb to base camp tonight and then head for the summit tomorrow

  2. ah, where to begin? No fun about the skunks! I would think they'd stay away if you're all outside, though? Of course, that means taking the risk :) Love that you have grapes! VBS sounds cool, though, um, yeah in the evening would be really hard!! I can't imagine that's easy for the kids, too! I love the idea of them raising money, though. That should be more a part of VBSes, I think! Glad you had a fun time with Grandma!
