Mexico 2013 - part 5

I'll do my best to finish posting about my trip, because some of you are probably forgetting what Sydney and Kayleigh look like.

After church we got to take some of the kids to a beach. Getting there is an adventure in and of itself. Each adult is assigned to a child and we are to stick with that buddy the entire time. First we drove to the docks, took a boat taxi and then took another taxi. We even took two of the kids who are confined to wheelchairs.

Carlitos I and Carlitos II

Julian loved it - look at that smile!

When we got home we hung out with the kids a little more - this was pretty much our final opportunity to be with them before we left. The boys pictured below are the older boys and they are in need of a new home. For the next year, Racho de los Ninos is raising money for Project Next Steps. The goal is to raise $400,000 and the vision is to buy two properties in the city of Mazatlan. One will serve as a new home for the boys (with a host couple living there) and the other will serve as a bed and breakfast for tourists. The B&B will be a place where the boys can work and support themselves through the income it generates.

We also took this opportunity to hand out the Bibles we brought. I'm not sure if I have mentioned it here or not, but the kids in our church raised enough money to buy 40 Spanish Bibles for us to take down. We gave half to the kids at Rancho de los Ninos and the other half to the local church. The kids at our church signed their names in a Bible to be given to another kid.

This picture below is Miguel receiving a new Bible. He had one, but it was in very bad shape. He was quite excited to get a new one. All the kids were excited. One kept coming up to me to make sure his was in Spanish!

Juan Enrique is the one who kept making sure his was in Spanish. He got the Bible Kayleigh signed. Juan Antonio got Bible Sydney signed. (I may have rigged it a bit to make that happen).

And that's the end of my trip report. Here's a final team photo we took before heading to the airport.

Next post will have photos of Syd and Kay and random, unimportant information about how we spend our days.
